Whilst visiting the not quite so touristic city of Mechelen (lovely old buildings), we went to this restaurant for dinner. You will find it just a couple of minuteswalk away from the cathedral in a residential area. There used to be an old ball room dancing place in the exact spot of the restaurant. Very spacious dining room, with 32 seats, with 50's furniture and interesting art. Our very friendly and efficient host / owner Barbara had reserved a wonderful tabel for us, even though we only booked one night before, via e-mail. Chef/owner Marc cooks delicious and interesting dishes. We had for starters smoked duck with mint/tea jellie, and fried mackerel with marinated beetroot. Maindishes were partridge with celeriac puree, and deer steak en croute with sweet potato. For desert cheese platter and quinces with wallnut ice cream. When asked for a wine matching our menu, the owner came out to get us a wonderful Spanish wine that combined with both menus equally well. This couple has been here for just over two years now, and I don't understand why it has not been mentioned on any review sites so far - both welcoming atmosphere and food are outstanding. Menu 44 euro for 3 courses very good value for money. Menu changes every couple of monthsheleen - 12-12-2010 »report this story
