Culinary Characteristics
activity type
Nestlé USA built its Burlington chocolate plant in 1965. This major Midwest manufacturing facility produces NESTLÉ CRUNCH® Fun Size Bars, 100 GRAND®, OH HENRY®, GOOBERS®, RAISINETS®, and BUNCHA CRUNCH™ candies, NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Semi-Sweet and Milk Chocolate Morsels, and Chocolate Nestlé® NESQUIK® as well as ice cream bar coatings.
Nestlé sincerely regrets that they are unable to provide chocolate plant tours in Burlington. Their manufacturing facilities are dedicated to producing the highest quality food and beverage products in the safest manner possible. For that reason, Nestlé does not provide public tours, which can be a distraction for employees working with industrial equipment. In addition, their factory equipment and processes are proprietary and considered confidential.
The Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce, located at 113 E. Chestnut Street. in the downtown loop, hosts a small but tidy chocolate museum. Here you will find chocolate memorabilia, Nestlé products from around the world, a visual display of the history of chocolate, a video presentation of chocolate, and chocolate samples and souvenirs.
The displays include a unique mechanical model chocolate factory constructed by local metal artists Fred Weyrauch, Bruce Kuda and friends at FCF Metal Salvage.
