CFL researchHoltkamp is a patisserie institute. First of all you need to visit them and have a "kroket" (or croquet as the snack is called on the premises) right there. Have the classic veal croquet or the little grey shrimp croquet. Then make a selection from their artisan cookies, chocolates and cakes. Read just for fun the ingredients label of the cookies: butter, flour, sugar and natural additional flavours. Talk about honest food!

Featured as great place to get appeltaart, kroketten and koggetjes in Blazer's famous flavours Amsterdam culinary travel guide.

Stories about this culinary travel experiences

  • Many of their products are a tribute to Dutch and specifically Amsterdam patisserie history. Nice example are the nearly extinct gember bolussen (chewy ginger donut like pastry), a typical Jewish delicacy, representative for the rich Jewish history of Amsterdam (you can also get them in the tearoom of the Jewish Historical Museum - a bonus tip).

  • The kroketten are made - still largely by hand - in their own tiny kroketten factory close to the bakery. The machines used for the kroketten are designed by owner Nico Meijles, to exactly copy the unique manual process of kroket making, so there no concessions were necessary going from largely manual production to partially machinally.

  • Take your time to have a look at this amazingly beautiful classic patisserie. For more tan 120 years this tiny little shop has served as pattisserie. Behind, underneath and above the store, all the delicacies, except the kroketten are created. This video http://www.patisserieholtkamp.nl/nl-NL/bedrijfsfilm/ gives you a mouth-watering look behind the scenes. You see the passionate owners Angela Holtkamp (daughter of...) and her husband Nico Meijles, don't mind the Dutch language, just enjoy the movie.
